Final Major Project - Fictional band - Deliver: Unit 12/13

Final Major Project - Fictional Band: Deliver - Evaluation of project Now that my fictional band project has reached its conclusion, I will take this opportunity to look back and reflect on my approaches and processes throughout the project.   First and foremost , I feel this has been my most successful project to date. Upon reflecting on my initial proposal document, most of my self-designated aims have been achieved - I created a series of character designs using my skills in illustration; I developed a synopsis detailing the background of the characters and the world they live in; I created a collection of physical promotional materials to support these characters and narrative; and throughout this process I gathered both primary and secondary research sources to support my creative decisions. However, there are also aspects of this project that I found challenging, and some processes and outcomes did not turn out the way I had initially hoped or expected.   Regarding my research

Final Major Project - Fictional Band: Develop - Promotional assets/Outcomes Now that the logo, character designs, and (most integrally) the actual purpose and narrative of the band was established, I could begin creating various assets for the band's promotional campaign. I began by creating a poster promoting the band's debut performance in Bielefeld, this would be a secondary outcome to support two primary outcomes. I analysed other gig posters, noting the visual styles and key information included in each of them. When developing my own poster, I used a gradient background and placed the band and logo on top of this. My first iteration was too compositionally imbalanced, with most details featured on the bottom third of the layout. I fixed this by moving the placement of the band members, changing the placement and scale of the logo, and adding my created pattern to balance the detailing of the poster. I then added relevant information and texture overlay to finalise the d

Final Major Project - Fictional Band: Develop - Character designs and narrative development Once my logo was created, I began to design the characters. I started by researching Carl Jung's character archetypes, which would inform me in creating personalities and individual narratives for each character - thus also informing the visual designs of the characters. Starting with the bassist, I began sketching a human form and blocking in the body structure - in doing so I primarily considered gesture and line of motion to add a sense of movement to the design. Once a basis was formed, I exaggerated the proportions to accentuate particular areas of the design and create a more unique visual language for the fictional band. I then tested alternate proportions using my knowledge of shape language, to then decide on the best direction to take the design in (whether it be blockier, more slender, or the more balanced original design). From this, I developed a character key - allowing me to i

Final Major Project - Fictional Band: Develop - Concept ideation and logo development Using the collected research from my discovery phase, I created two mindmaps - one for the fictional band and the other for the fictional world they live in. Using this format, I considered a variety of different possibilities for the band name, members, mission, visual reference, and opposition. To further this development of the fictional band, I collated a series of music genre aesthetics to consider which would best fit my fictional band's purpose. I extracted colour palettes from each of these genres, some of which I would then use as the primary colour palette to represent my fictional band. To better understand my band's intended audience and meaning, I created an empathy map as an assumption of their focal thought processes and feelings surrounding the music industry and general societal situations. This would help me to develop characters that felt specifically designed towards the
